Brief Introduction

Nanchang Institute of Science and Technology (NIST) is a full-time, application-oriented undergraduate college that prioritizes engineering disciplines, and also fosters the growth of various other fields. Recognized by the Ministry of Education, NIST has been selected as one of the initial group of colleges to pilot the 1+X certificate system. Additionally, it is among the first batch of colleges designated by the Jiangxi Provincial People’s Government for the pilot application-oriented universities initiative.

 

Covering 2,386.48 acres, NIST boasts a total construction area of 990,000 square meters. The campus is nestled amidst picturesque mountains and rivers, offering stunning views and a serene study environment. It features comprehensive facilities and functions that enhance both academic and extracurricular activities. NIST is also designated as a national 3A-level tourist attraction due to its beautiful landscape.

 

History

1988: Established as Ganjiang University, the first private college in Jiangxi

1998: Renamed to Ganjiang College

2003: Changed to Ganjiang Technical College

2011: Renamed as Nanchang Institute of Science and Technology

Operational Strategy: Discipline-led, anchored by undergraduate programmes, invigorated by culture, driven by talent, and progressing through unique characteristics.

Educational Approach: Student-centered, teacher-led, emphasizing comprehensive education in morality, intelligence, physical fitness, aesthetics, and labor. This approach aims to cultivate well-rounded individuals who excel in various aspects.


NIST has eight schools, including School of Mechanical and Vehicle Engineering, School of Economics and Management, School of Information and Artificial Intelligence, School of Architecture and Environmental Engineering, School of Art and Media Design, the Marxist School, School of Sports and Health, and School of Education.

It offers 62 undergraduate programmes and 37 3-year diploma programmes, covering eight disciplines including Engineering, Science, Economics, Management, Literature, Law, Arts, and Education.

NIST currently has over 29,200 students enrolled, including nearly 21,000 full-time undergraduates and over 8,000 3-years diploma students.

The Institute boasts one key provincial discipline, two first-class provincial disciplines, three provincial and ministerial-level key disciplines and comprehensive reform pilot disciplines, two provincial talent training model innovation areas, two provincial teaching teams, two first-class national-level courses, one high-quality national-level online open course, eight first-class provincial courses, and three provincial teaching achievement awards.

Focused closely on the technological industries and regional economic development of Jiangxi Province, the Institute leverages its first-class provincial disciplines to collaborate with well-known enterprises in establishing modern industry academies. It actively promotes the training of high-quality application-oriented, interdisciplinary, and innovative talents, offering elite classes for top-notch innovative talent, excellent engineer training programs, and the "1+X" talent training programs. Through initiatives such as the science-education collaborative education plan, integration of industry and education plan, and school-enterprise cooperative education plan, the Institute fosters the distinctive development of its students. Graduates are highly regarded by employers and society for their dedication, solid foundations, and exceptional skills. 

Teaching Staff

NIST currently has over 2,000 faculty members, of which more than 1,500 are full-time teachers. Over 30% of these teachers hold senior professional titles. The faculty includes 283 doctoral holders and candidates. Additionally, nearly 80% of the teachers possess the master’s degree or higher.

Scientific Research

NIST hosts approximately 30 scientific research platforms at various levels. Nearly 10 research teams within the Institute have been recognized as Provincial and Municipal Scientific Research Teams. The Institute has received approval for over 10 national projects, which include 3 projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation. Additionally, it has successfully completed more than 300 provincial and ministerial projects, along with nearly 200 other projects including municipal and industry collaborative (horizontal) research projects. 

Service to Society

To date, the Institute has established partnerships with over 100 enterprises and local governments. Notable collaborations include Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd., Shanghai Baolong Automotive Technology Co., Ltd., Magna PT Powertrain (Jiangxi) Co., Ltd., Sigma Co., Ltd., ZTE Software Technology (Nanchang) Co., Ltd., Shanghai Maiyu Network Technology Co., Ltd., China Tower Corporation Limited (Nanchang Branch), and several local governments such as Guixi Economic Development Zone, the People’s Government of Longnan Municipality, Quannan County, Le’an County, and Jiangxi Xinjian Economic Development Zone.

International Cooperation

NIST is committed to an open education strategy and vigorously promotes collaborations and exchanges with international educational institutions. Actively aligning with the national Belt and Road Initiative, NIST engages in a variety of cooperations including mutual credit recognition, joint training programs, faculty and student exchanges, cultural interactions, and scientific research collaborations with 14 universities and institutions across six countries and regions.
